$200–$400/month depending on scope size

Our Features

We lease pier space from the ground up. You supply the mount, telescope, camera, and accessories.

Each pier has dedicated power outlets and network drops.

Automated systems close the observatory if unsafe conditions arise (e.g., rain, high winds).

We provide on-site technical assistance (e.g., set-up, equipment checks, basic troubleshooting). More extensive help is available upon request for additional fees.
Included Ranch Accommodations
Stay at the lodge!
The SOFAR Observatories are located on the historic SMS Ranch founded by Svante Magnus Swenson in 1854. On the ranch, near the Observatories, our astronomers have access to a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom lodge with a full kitchen and large open living room suitable for conferences and presentations. With couches and cots, the lodge can sleep up to 12 people. Adjacent to the lodge is a new 2-bedroom casita. Each bedroom, which can sleep 3 people, has its own bathroom and kitchenette. There is also an electric hookup and water available for RV’s.
